How to use your own domain name with a simple website
Short answer: Buy the domain from any registrar, then point it at your page by pasting two lines into the registrar's DNS settings. Connecting your own domain to OurLink.is is coming soon.
Do you need your own domain?
Not on day one. A free address like ourlink.is/yourname works well to start. Your own domain, such as sharmasweets.in, is worth it when:
- You print the address on signboards, vehicles or packaging that will last years
- You want an email address that matches it
- You want the page to feel fully yours, with no other brand in the address
Choosing one
- Try your business name with .in or .com first.
- Keep it short, and skip hyphens if you can.
- Register it in your own name, with your own email, not your web designer's.
- Turn on auto-renew. A lapsed domain can be bought by someone else.
Connecting it on OurLink.is (coming soon)
Coming soon. Connecting your own domain to an OurLink.is page isn't open yet. When it opens, it will work like this:
- Open your page's domain setting and type the domain you own.
- Copy the two lines shown and paste them into your registrar's DNS settings.
- Press verify.
Sometimes it's live in a minute. Sometimes it takes a few hours, if your registrar is slow to publish the change. We message you when it's live.
When it opens, your own domain will need the Pro plan or above. The security certificate (the lock icon) will be included. If you stop paying, your page keeps working at ourlink.is/yourname and nothing is deleted.
