How to accept UPI payments on your website
Short answer: Connect your bank account through a licensed payment gateway, then add a payment button to your page. Your customer pays by UPI in a few taps, and the money goes to your bank.
Two ways small businesses take UPI online
| Way | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Sharing your UPI ID or QR code | Regular customers you know | No record of who paid for what, and you check every payment by hand |
| A payment button through a gateway | Fees, bookings, advance payments, strangers | The gateway charges its own fee per payment |
Steps
- Keep your bank details and KYC documents ready. The gateway will ask for them.
- Add the gateway's payment link or button to your page.
- Set a fixed amount (such as a ₹500 booking fee) or leave it open for the customer to enter.
- Make a small test payment yourself before you share the page.
Common questions
- Where does the money go?
- Straight to your bank account, on the gateway's normal settlement timeline. It doesn't pass through your website.
- What does it cost?
- The gateway charges a fee per payment, which varies by gateway and payment type. Check it before you sign up.
- Is my customer's UPI or card detail safe?
- With a licensed gateway, payment happens on the gateway's own secure page. Your website never sees the customer's card or UPI details.
